Despite the heat, [(Actually mildly warm day.) Don't you just love it? After only two days of sunshine where the temperatures actually were high enough (low twenties) that a person doesn't have to wear a long sleeve shirt and Vancouverites start complaining about the heat and the lack of rain.] there was a good turn out for the monthly meeting of the BCHRA (British Columbia Hot Rod Association).
It took a while to get the eighty-two members and guests to settle down in the club house. Firstly many members showed up with their rides, over forty cars, ranging from, a `17 to a `72 Chev. and three Harleys. Secondly the meeting this month was held, with compliments of Trev Deeley Motorcycles, in the Trev Deeley Motorcycle Museum, (13500 Verdun Place, Richmond. Open weekdays from 10 - 4).
The July meeting got under way with the introduction of guests who were heartily greeted and the reading of the June minutes which were unanimously approved.
A 50/50 draw was held and BCHRA T-shirts were sold. Gerry Rooyakkers from VHOG was also selling T-shirts to raise funds for the B. C. Professional Fire Fighter's Burn Fund.
This is the second year that the BCHRA is offering rides for the children at the Summer Burn Camp. Last year two hot rods joined some thirty HOGs to give the children rides on the opening day of camp.
This year the hogs and Hot Rods will gather, between noon and 2 PM, at the Trev Deeley Motorcycle dealership [On Boundary Road, Burnaby, (actually on the Vancouver side) almost under the new SkyTrain]. Harleys and Hot Rods will travel from Boundary Rd. To Britannia Beach and meet in the large parking lot in front of the `99 Diner'.
Other upcoming events include: the `Totem Thunderbird Club's' `Annual Classic Cruise-In' which will be held at the Deas Island Regional Park in Delta on August 5. For more details call Cam at 534-2190; and the `Old Car Jamboree' to be held Saturday Sept. 15th in Downtown Cloverdale. For more info contact 514- CARS. Both events have a ten dollar entry fee.
After a short (I use the term lightly) coffee break where everyone scattered to look at historic motorcycles, or stepped outside in the pleasant weather to view the `rods', the meeting continued with discussion of the government proposals for the new collector/modified license plates.
Another upcoming event was mentioned and that is a Barbecue that will be held at member's home, Saturday July 28.
Door prizes, two dinners, courtesy of `The Fort Pub' in Ft. Langley, were won by Bill Townsend and Bodo Reichert.
The 50/50 draw, which raised one hundred thirty-three dollars for the BCHRA, also netted a like amount to Garf Larin who had the winning ticket.
The next meeting, (Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month.) will again be held somewhere other than the normal club house (Lions Club hall at Glover Rd. and 88th in Ft. Langley.). The August meeting will be held outdoors.
