Hi Lee,

I'm looking for some historical information about Burnaby, BC where I grew up.

There used to be a theatre on Kingsway called the Oak Theatre.

It was at 3506 Kingsway at the time, but that block has since been renumbered into the 5000's today.

I'm trying to determine the exact location of the theatre, as it has become a debate amongst family members.

A recent article claimed that it used to sit where the London Drugs is today, but that seems too far west for the other descriptions available.

And the Burnaby Heritage Mapping site says that it was between Marlborough and Burlington.

Do you know anywhere that there might be some photos of the are from the late 30's, early 40's, that might answer the question?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

Rob P. Langley, BC Canada

REPLY

NO.

But let me do some digging.

I am a relative newcomer to Burnaby and only lately into historical.

I didn't know the addresses had been changed.

Dear Rob

Here is the answer, courtesy of Arilea S. City Archivist - City of Burnaby Archives.

If you look at this map, http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&q=4900+kingsway+burnaby+bc&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x5486765a6b5a6b0f:0x8e62baa27412205,4900+Kingsway,+Burnaby,+BC+V5H+4H2,+Canada&sa=X&ei=rxLnUK6AFIGUiQLt34D4Cw&ved=0CDEQ8gEwAA you can see todayÕs structures.

This collection of buildings is called Plaza 5000 and ranges from 4900 Kingsway ( Corner of Nelson and Kingsway ) to 5050 ( Corner of Marlborough and Kingsway ).

(Portion of map of Burnaby)
Map courtesy of Google

At the time of the Oak Theatre the two buildings on the East didnÕt exist.

The East end of the block was a vacant lot, possible a parking lot.

Just West of the empty lot, set back from Kingsway, was the Oak Theatre.

The two buildings, 5040 and 5050, and the East end of the present parking area now cover the footprint of the theatre.

Hope this helps

Lee.

Thanks, I think the site is looking great!

I did find a couple dead links.

My website also has a lot of links to check, I use Xenu to check for broken ones.

Best to you.

Mucho Gracias Daniel

The Xenus only works on Windows but I found, in Softonic, a program, `Integrity' that works for Mac.

I spent many hours the last 2 days using it.

I found and corrected over 250 broken links.

Thanks again.

I have a 1956 Sunbeam whose frame has been powder coated.

Inherited the bike and would like to register it in my name but can not find the serial number on it, hence can not get it sited and registered in my name

Supposed to be by the seat where it attaches onto the frame on the left side of the bike, top tube or so but nothing is visible.

Just wondering if you have one down there and you can tell me exactly where the number is.

Otherwise I have to apply for a VIN and get some garage to put some stamp on my bike and take away some of its authentic quality.

Thanks,

Alex C. Kelowna, B. C. Canada

Thank you for reading my article in Bear's Page.

However, I know, literally, nothing about bikes.

I am forwarding your E to a couple of people that work at Trev Deeley and hopefully one of them can answer your question?
