Been there 10 years in a row

was wondering how toll roads were safety wise

plan would be one stop befor ixtapa by 4-5 pm

didnt see any hotels that take dogs

thought about sla band in zih or tracones.

The driving is the real question

you here even some busses or being robbed

are the toll roads patrolled good by police

i know about the green angels.

REPLY

Definitely can't help on that.

On my budget I avoid toll roads.

Not that I have to, I have only ever seen one where I go.

Got on one South of Acapulco, by mistake.

I have heard of Green Angels but have never seen one, to my knowledge.

Did hear bandits dropped a tree across the road North of Acapulo and robbed a bus.

That was a few years ago.

0ne stop at 4 pm

I have a really big welbehaved bullmAstiff all health papers think I could find a room.

I am a big 50 year old texan

my wife sayszI canzgo but really thinks I should fly.

REPLY

I came up with this web page. - http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=texas&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=BP4lT-uUOumSiQL9-MWHCA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CAwQ_AUoAg

It says it will take you 24 hours of driving.

Flying of course is fastest, and safer. However U would have more problems with the dog.

The dog probably wouldn’t be too much trouble at the border, if you are driving, but you don’t want to drive after dark.

My suggestion is to spend the night on the US side of the border at Laredo.

Laredo is a really busy town for truckers, it might be hard to find a motel. However, just across the border the Mexican towns can be pretty rough. And likewise it is a busy truck crossing so there will be lots of Mexican truckers. So hotels could be hard to find.

I would cross early the next morning and get all your paper work done. You will hit several road blocks as you go South so keep all your papers on the dash while you are driving, hide them when you are parked.

If you can’t make it to Ixtapa by dark find a quiet town, they should all be safe in that area, but find a little motel that has secured parking, most of them will have.

Ixtapa is mostly big fancy hotels so you may find trouble getting a room with a dog.

You might be better to go over the hill, 10 miles, to Zihuatanejo where there are some motels.

Keep your eye on the speed limits and watch out for big, unmarked, speed bumps the signs, if marked, will say `TOPE’ or `REDUCTOR'.

Be sure to take a camera, and lots of pictures.

Have a good trip.

Thank you for the photos, sure wish we had a camera back in the days we lived there, out neighbors were the "Ps" (or Pes), I believe his first name was Larry, he was about 3 or 4 years older then me.

The school had one room with grades 1, 2, and 3 all together. I was in grade 3,at age 8, when we moved to the "Hat", I was kept in grade 3 for almost a full year.

With your permission I will pass the info on to Art, his dad had a butcher shop in Gleichen...

Best regards

Jim Q. Duncan, BC Canada

Got my first camera in Gleichen. Also my first dark room set.

The principal, or one of the teachers, (can't remember which) had lost his son and I was given all his darkroom equipment.

Larry P. Rings a bell. I wonder if his son was larry Jr. No, Chris Pe. He is in the picture I sent U.

I went to a school in Sicamous, before we went to Gleichen. 2 rooms. gr. 1 - 4 & 5 - 8.

Sure, send it to Art and my web page about Gleichen http://www.leespage.ca/h/tra/ca/a/g.html

He might remember my mom, A., worked in the Red & White.

We moved from Kingston Ont. to Calgary in 1941, dad joined the Army and served with the 112th Ack-ack (Anti-aircraft section).

In 1942 we moved to Gleichen, I had to attend the Indian School for about 6 weeks due to no room at the "white boys" school.

I became close friends with some of the Native boys, one in particular named Johnny, his family owned a large farm just across the tracks....

Johnny and I would collect Garter snakes and Bull snakes along the railway line and drop them off in town Scared the girls so much the RCMP put a stop to our "collecting" program.

One of my close friends was Billy Holt, Billy lost an eye one day due to being shot at by one of the older boys with a BB gun....

The Principal at the public school was Mr. Nelson...

We used to go to the drugstore on the corner and the owner let us sit on the top steps reading the comic books, what fun!

I have many great memories of Gleichen, it was a fun place to live.

By the way, another friend who lived there was Art B., Art and I still meet and talk about the "good old Days"

Sincerely

Jim Q. Duncan, BC Canada

My life followed a similar, yet opposite, path, about 20 years after yours.

My father was a member of The Force (RCMP). After retiring he went to Gleichen to work for the Dept. of Indian Affairs. His office was in the hospital on the reserve and we lived in a Gov’t. house further South

Whites weren’t allowed; as students, or patients, in the Indian school, or hospital. The natives had to go to the White school for grade 8. Most of them dropped out.

There was great animosity between whites and reds.

One of my school chums (Donny or Terry Towers) was hit in the eye with a BB from his cousin’s (Either Donny or Terry) weapon while they and a few friends were playing cowboys and Indians around their farm.

We had two corner stores where I used to take my empty bottles and when I had enough money saved up one of them sold model airplanes. I had quite a collection. Not much else to do living ½ mile from town.

I don’t remember who the principal was.

I was there for 4 years, before we moved to B. C. Gleichen School Class of `60

Seems like forever since I had my biopsy.

My doctor phoned yesterday and said there is no sign of cancer.

But he still hasn't set a date for the excavation.

Note: to female readers, `U can skip the next part'.

He has to go up my urethra with a camera and a cutting machine and decimate the interior of my prostate.

Can't be soon enough for me.

For the last few years I have been taking a pill called `avodart'

It is supposed to shrink my prostate.

Don't know if it works or not.

If it doesn't I would hate to think how big my prostate would be.

The radiologist says that it is currently the size of a grapefruit.

At present I can't sleep for more than an hour or so before I have to make a run to the washroom.

Needless to say this is very inconvenient during the day, especially at work, since I am already groggy, and irritable, from lack of sleep.

All you gentlemen, over 40, be prepared.

I don't know if there is any prevention but it strikes most males over the age of 50.

Hopefully, after the surgery, I can get back to normal, what ever that is.

I would like to get involved with recycling. Preferably keeping stuff out of the landfill. But that of course requires scads of money.

If anyone knows of places to get funds, or grants, let me know.

With work being slow, I have added a bunch of pictures to my B.C. pages

Hwy. 5A. From the top of the page to the bottom http://www.leespage.ca/h/tra/ca/bc/5A.html

Also I have started a new page - http://www.leespage.ca/h/tra/us/ca.html

And I have added a new bitch to my blog site - http://bearspages.blogspot.com/2012/01/dont-go-electric.html

PS: Shortly before Xmas I bought a Laptop Computer, which I really can’t afford.

If you are in the market, it is 1 year old, spotless.

Came with Snow Leopard but has been upgraded to Lion.

It is a 13.3” Mac Book Pro. Running at 2.4 GHz.

It was made in late 2010 and I have added CS and Office.

I am asking $1100 and that will include postage to anywhere in Canada.

Hi and thanks for the pictures.

Would you mind if I used one of them in our “Can’t Get there From Here” spot?

Please?

I particularly like the jets in Portage La Prairie.

Thanks,

Sure.

Let me know when you publish it and I will make a link to your mag.

Thanx for the pics of Jasper.

I was born there. :)

What exactly do you do in the film industry?

What a picturesque place to call home.

I am a transportation specialist.

Mostly I operate as a chauffer to; other drivers, the background extras, cast, and executive, plus I move the heavy equipment.

I know what you are saying about operating systems.

My desk top had problems with it, and would have cost as much to repair as a new computer.

It had Win XP in it, which I loved, and was really used to.

However, 2 weeks before Christmas, my husband and I went to the computer shop - one of many in town.

The techi there told us about the repairs needed on the computer, and as parts are not made for that one anymore, I was hesitant about buying a new one.

However, the mister (my husband) told the techi to build me a computer, and that would be my Christmas present.

I could not believe my ears.

So, I did get a new one with Win 7 (Professional o.s.) in it.

A couple of days before Christmas the mister asked me what I would like for Christmas, and I told him I could not have a gift from him, as he bought me the new computer.

Needless to say, he had forgotten about it.

Talk about being spoiled eh?

Have a great day and catch you later,

Molly

Why on earth would you purchase such an expensive lap top?

Knowing that, yes, Mac are a good product, but, you can buy one at a less expensive outlay of $$ to your wallet.

Then, never having heard of such things as "Snow Leopard" and "Lion", people will have a hard time relating to those programs and would have to spend $$ to clean it out.

Perhaps you should keep it yet for another few years and get your value from the laptop which you have?

Wishing you a very happy and prosperous 2012,

Catch you later,

Molly M.

Why on earth would you purchase such an expensive lap top?

Impulse, stupidity.

I wanted to replace the 12" I sold last month on EBay.

Now I realize that I won't be doing much travelling anymore and can't afford the outlay.

Knowing that, yes, Mac are a good product, but, you can buy one at a less expensive outlay of $$ to your wallet.

Less expensive are older and have older technology.

Then, never having heard of such things as "Snow Leopard" and "Lion",

The equivalent in a Windows is Vista, & Windows 7.

people will have a hard time relating to those programs and would have to spend $$ to clean it out.

Can’t take it out, without one of them the computer won't run. They are operating systems.

Perhaps you should keep it yet for another few years and get your value from the laptop which you have?

Guess I have no choice.

But I know the wife will shoot me when she finds out.

Wishing you a very happy and prosperous 2012,

Hi Bear this is Mickey,

Angela's father from Rockets tour, she played the part of Clara. Hope you had an exciting 2011 and a great and healthy 2012.

Do you want to sell your address book?. maybe for $50k?

In case you do - will try to find someone that is willing to pay that or $50 bucks!

Will keep you posted, as per your lap top, will you take a picture of my family in exchange?

I will include one of Angie by herself as an extra.

Take care of yourself and your travels as you venture into new horizons this year.
