Hello Lee
Thankyou for your extremely helpful and hasty reply.
I certainly didn't expect to hear back this soon.
You have been most helpful and hope you have a great day.
It is cold and rainy here in Ottawa this morning and the thoughts of warm temps in Mexico this winter make me happy!!
Thanks again,

You are welcome.
I just happened to e on the computer when your first E came in.
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with this reply.
I have been so busy with work,
TV series - Supernatural, but I finally found time, yesterday, to dig out the map I was telling you about and used it to try out my new scanner.
The streets I was talking about are on the left and the upper left.
The left ones will take you up the hill with a fantastic view of the Pacific on the other side of the hill.
The streets on the top of the map are also steep and give a fantastic view of the town as well as an interesting look into the lives of the locals.
I pride myself in not getting lost but I got lost several times in Zihu.
Print out one of the maps of downtown and carry it with you.
Unfortunately I have never found a map listing the names on the side streets.
However, when lost, simply head back down the hill.
Well, your thoughts don’t make me happy.
They make me jealous.
After being wiped out by Premier Campbell and his stupid HST, I won’t be going to Mexico this winter.
So, enjoy, for both of us.

Hello There
Just wondering if you would happen to have a DETAILED WALKING MAP of the streets of Zihuatanejo.
I was there last year and expect to return this year with a friend and a detailed map would sure help.
Thanks for taking the time.
Andrea T. Ottawa, Ontario Canada
REPLY
Will look in my files.
I did have a map of downtown.
I got it from a travel agent.
They are a nice pocket size, coloured, map, and extremely helpful as the streets in downtown are not laid out in a grid and can be quite confusing.
This link will give you a rough map.
This link will give you a more detailed map.
I hope this helps.
I have never been able to find a map that shows more than the downtown core.
For a really nice walk go North from the map, up some narrow, steep stairs.
You will get a really good view, and a good work out.

Hi Lee,
I was browsing images of Huatulco on the net and landed on your page.
I really enjoyed reading it and viewing your pictures.
I am planning a summer vacation in Huatulco next year and was looking for more information on what the locals do.
As well as finding an affordable hotel.
Any tips or advice you can give me?
Did you hire a guide to direct you to Hotel Sabali?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks.

Most of the locals seemed to be at the beach in the day time.
We weren’t there on the weekend so I can’t tell you if they have an El Centro but I would surprised if they don’t .
We found the hotel by giving an employee from the beach a ride into town at the end of the day and he directed us to a couple before we found this one.
It is a little out of the way, on the corner of town, but was well worth it.
I think any hotel in town would be good as the pricier hotels are along the beaches.
Other than what is in my website I can’t tell you much as we only stayed 2 nights and then went North to Puerto Angel, which to me is a must see.
Like all my trips to Mexico I just wing it.
If you get in late, ask the bus driver where the cheap hotels, `posada economico’, or `hotel pico dinero’, are and then look for a cheaper one the next day.
My Spanish is very limited but they usually understand if you work with them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO - ME?
Isn’t it amazing, all of the Philippines, and all of the U.S. of A. are celebrating my birthday today.
Now if each one of them would send me a card, with a dollar in it!
Hell, I would settle for 50 cents.
I’ll even save them the postage, and the cost of the card - just give them my PayPal address.
Hey, I can dream, it’s my birthday.
+++++++++++
Inspired by letters, from you my readers, I wrote a couple of replies. I was going to put them here for all to read but they became too long so I turned them into articles and posted them.
`CONTROL YOUR POLITICIAN’ is a must read for anyone who is old enough to vote. You will find it posted at.
`BareLee’s Page’ is a short history of my website and I posted it at.
Finally, I took the time to go through the pictures I took while trucking to Winnipeg.
So, what does this mean for you?
A page of pictures for you to view, http://www.leespage.ca/h/tra/ca/m/H1.html .
First page I have put up on my website for a long time, other than humour pages, and yes I have added another baker’s dozen, jokes that is, http://www.leespage.ca/h/hu/hu7.html .
Now I have to concentrate on finding a real job.
I took all the decals off my truck the other day and put it on the Volvo lot.
So, if you want to buy a Volvo, phone George, (604) 888-5577.
Till next time.

Hi Bear,
You may recall helping me out a while ago by sending me info. on a place where my uncle had been on a ship (can't remember off hand the name) but something like Tuxpan? Would have been able to tell you if I'd been on my own computer.
However, I am hoping that you may be able to help me trace some of my Canadian relatives. They are in several different places. Names are Scarborough, York, Toronto, London, Jamestown, Middlesex, Boisdale & Bornish. I don't know where you are though and my geography isn't as good as my genealogy.
Names are MacKinnon, Callaghan, Sarlos, & Schnaider among others if you would care to have a look at my tree.
http://uistmackinnon.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=uistmackinnon&view=9&rand=56796750
What I'm hoping for is if you know anyone with those names would you be kind enough to pass on my email address and webpage above and ask them
to have a look to see if they are connected to me.
My maiden name is MacKinnon and I am from Scotland. The names I'm researching would have had ancestors born in Lanarkshire, Scotland & South Uist, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Many thanks if you can help me.
Anne Marie.
REPLY
Just at a rough guess, I would say that, the closest of those towns you mentioned would be about 5,000 Km. from me.
None of the names you mentioned ring any bells.
But I will post your query in my Guest Book and see if any of my readers can help.
Good luck

Hey there ...
I am visiting Melaque this summer looking for a suitable place to retire and I am curious about the existence/location of a music store in the Melaque/Manzanillo area.
I am a musician with a 37 year old custom-made guitar not willing to fly with it, looking to purchase an instrument for use during my visit.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Gregg S.
REPLY
In Melaque, I doubt it.
However, on the other end of the bay, in Barra De Navidad, possibly down one of the off streets.
Manzanillo, for sure.
But don’t ask me where as I don’t know any of those towns well enough to know about music stores. Walmart would probably have a lower end one.
Retirement, check out La Manzanilla, just an hour North of Melaque.
PS: I envy you. I would love to retire in that area.

Hi again:
Sorry, but there was an MB log dump in Hardy Bay, not only that but there was a booming ground.
The dump was only about 1/4 to 1/2 mile closer to town than the shop.
Do you recall the MB shop?
It was along the edge of HardyBay also and the MB mainline went right through the yard.
As a matter of fact, when you drove by the dump machine on the government road a highlight was the booming ground/log dump crew outhouse which sat alongside the dump machine.
The two yellow trucks in the photo belonged to Joe Borer Trucking -- this company hauled for MB along with the 13 company trucks.
I know all this as I was the shop foreman there from 1969 to 1974.
There was no MB presence in McNeil in 1974.
Bill
REPLY
`74 is probably the year they built it all, the dry sort, and the offices.
But I'm sure those trucks were there for the dump before that because I applied for a job there.
One of the reasons I gave up smoking pot, while working in Pt. Alice, was because I couldn’t remember some things that I knew I should know.
Bearing in mind that the time period we are talking about here was before I worked at Pt. Alice, I, seem to, recall that the Holberg road crossed the Island Highway and went around the South end of Hardy Bay and up the East side to the `A’ frame dump that was used by O’Connor logging who was hauling for Rayonier, out of Winter Harbour.
There was a small bridge across a small creek at the South end of Hardy Bay and there were a few houses or mobiles to the East of the bridge. HP, Towing had their home there.
Looking at a present map I see the road across the South is now called `Godspeed’ and doesn’t connect to Holberg Rd.
Other than that I don’t recall any buildings in that area.
I know at one time the bay was full of float homes.
But they were gone, because of a fire, before my days up there.
Further South, Near Pt. McNeil, crossing the Island Highway, there is a road called SW Main.
This is the haul road from the old mine up at Benson Lake.
Just as it crossed the highway to the South east of the intersection there is a short forked road. (Looking at Google maps here.)
That I believe is the road into the M&B dry sort. And their offices were there.
In front of the office they had a huge burl that was written up in the paper as being the world’s largest burl.
Well I got that part right anyway.
Just searched it on WebCrawler.
It didn’t have a roof over it when I took the picture.
I almost got run over by one of M&B’s trucks because I was standing in the middle of the road trying to take a picture of the truck and it wouldn’t stay in focus.
Because it was coming at me.
Duhh.

Hi:
The photo I looked at says August 1973.
I transferred from MB Port Hardy Division in June 1974 and I don't recall any MB logging in the McNeil area before I left.
I was involved in move from Hardy to McNeil but that took place after I left.
The background looks like Hardy Bay at low tide and the road paralelling the shore looks like the road which ran alongside the highway into Hardy and to the dump.
Bill Van B. Campbell River, B.C. Canada
REPLY
I am referring to the picture at. It’s the only line up of trucks in that area that I can recall.
The road they are on crossed the island Highway. To the west it went up to an old mine. To the East it went past the Mac Blo yard, then curved South along the waters’ edge, where this picture was taken, then curved East over the water on a bridge with an `A’ frame.
In `74 I drove off highway gravel truck in the evenings for `Port McNeil Enterprises’. We used that road to bring tailings from the old mine to the Mac Bloc yard. The tailings were spread and then covered with asphalt to make a dry sort so the logs could be sorted before being dumped in the water.
The only dump, I recall, in Port Hardy, was the Rayonier dump, out by `the flats’, which was used by O’Connor logging.
The two yellow trucks you see in the picture were not M&B but a sub contractor working for M&B.

Actually, if you are talking about the picture at the top of my West Coast story, that road is the one into the dump at Pt. McNeil.

Hi all, from Shanghai
Friday 2010 Mar. 26
Serena and Bin went to the dentist.
Later Serena took me to her hairdresser, where she plays mahjong, and got me a free haircut.
I have never in my life experienced such a fast haircut, including razor trim.
I know, there is nothing there to cut but it usually takes longer to cut than it does to put the apron on.
Saturday 2010 Mar. 27
Bin went to the dentist to finish her root canal and start her crown.
Serena went to play Mahjong.
Sunday 2010 Mar. 28
We loaded the van, Jing Di's, and headed West.
East of Hang Zhou, after, about, 2 hours on the freeway, we turned North for an hour and then stopped for lunch in.
Sorry, can't remember, probably couldn't pronounce it anyway.
After lunch we went South, and West.
After skirting Hang Zhou we stopped for the night at Tong Lu.
We stayed at the Ya Yuan Hotel, in the town of Tong Lu.
A typical 3 star Chinese hotel.
About a minus 1 star in Canadian rating. Equivalent to a typical Mexican hotel.
I find a lot of similarities between Mexico and China.
One of the commonalities has been, broken glass along the top of walls surrounding property,
However the newer walls, such as the one that now surrounds the complex where Jing Xian lives, are now topped with electric wires.
Monday 2010 Mar. 29
We headed for a town famous for clothing but we missed our turn off from the toll way, yes, they have toll freeways in China, thanks to Jing Di's GPS, why anyone would want one of those things I will never understand, so we ended up in the historic town of Wu Zhen but after checking out the entrance we headed home.
Admission was $120 Yuan.
Sorry, no pictures at this time.
You will have to wait for me to build my web pages.
Or just visit my China page.
If you have seen one Chinese town you have seen them all.
In fact, now, with the new freeways, and larger population, it is hard to tell where one town ends and the next begins.
Which is something I wanted to tell you about.
We went up a narrow winding, newly paved, road, through a narrow canyon with a little town of 10 or so houses on every other wide bank of the river.
As I type this I can hear rain starting. It has been warm and dry for the last five days. Big rain storms the first three days I was here.
Back to our side trip.
At the top of the canyon was a long tunnel.
Two lanes wide, one in each direction, with a pull out on both sides, in the middle of the tunnel.
There was a row of lights along each side.
It has to be the longest tunnel I have ever gone through.
Much longer than the longest one in the Fraser canyon.
The tunnel ended at a tourist attraction where you climbed a narrow trail up a steep hill, and follow the mountain ridge around the canyon and back down, about 2 hours.
No, we didn't go.
Some other people, coming down, told us it was a waste of money. The trail was blocked about 1/2 way up the first hill.
The reason there are no pictures - I can't download to my computer. I plug the camera in and it turns on but when I start the software it says, `no camera found'. And I've downloaded the latest software.
Oh well, other things to be doing.
(Since then I took a bus from PuDong to PuXi
The tunnel, actually two tunnels, 3 lanes in each direction, curved and curved back, a couple of times, up and down, under the river, must have been twice as long as the one in the mountians.)

The originators seem to have their logo on it so I will put a link to them and give them credit.

Hi all, from Shanghai

Sunday 2010 Mar. 21
I jumped on an Air Canada, headed for Shanghai, free with my Aeroplan miles.
Monday 2010 Mar. 22
Coming over on the plane, I sat between a man from Seattle and a man from Toronto.
Tue. Night.
I was trying to connect to the internet.
Sat. Morning.
A big Peach Dragon just went by.

Hi Bear,
That looks great. You got some excellent shots of the vehicles.
Just wondering, if John or I find some info mistakes and/or spelling mistakes do you want us to let you know?
Also, once our website is up could we possibly add a link to your page? I think it’s a great way to help keep our records of where we have been and where we are going.
You’ll have to come after we’ve opened in the summer to check out the new facility.

Re: your article of Soledad de Maciel
La Chole is now the site of a major archaelogical excavation sponsored by the Tourism Dept.
The new museum is scheduled to open in March 2010. Meanwhile, visitors can park near the gates to the dig and tour it (in Spanish) with a very well-informed local guide named Eric.

I sold my trailer.
(Haven't sold the tractor yet)
They were coming to a convention for flooring. Big expo of flooring manufacturers.
I was telling them about a store that sells outdoor clothing for hikers, bikers, etc.
Good quality, large sizes, good prices.
But I couldn't remember the name (Di Ka Shanghai Ti Y) or where it was so I couldn't explain to them how to get there.
Yesterday, Jing Di, my brother in law, took us to that store.
It is right across the street from the convention centre.
Hope they found it OK.
I was using a cable I had bought earlier.
I had gone into a store and they wanted $10 for a 3 M. cable.
Jing Mei said, “too much”, and dragged me out of the store.
At the next store down the street she went in without me and bought a 10M. cable for $5.
I guess she is right when she tells me they double the price for white customers.
Movie prices have gone down,
A few years ago the asking price was $8 to $10.
Two years ago the prices had dropped to 5 and 7.
This year they have dropped to 3 and 4.
From 2 different stores I have acquired 29 movies so far. You'll note I said stores. OK, 1 store and one stall in a market. Street vendors no longer exist.
Like Vancouver's clean up for the 2010 Whistler Olympics, Shanghai is cleaning up for the 2010 Expo.
New; subway station, streets, and new inter city freeways.
Yesterday, Wed., was bright and sunny with no breeze. Serena and I walked down to the spectacle store where I dealt last time.
The man who had waited on me wasn't there but his brother waited on me.
Though he had no knowledge of English he examined my eyes and determined a prescription.
However, that is where the problems began. How to determine the quality of the lenses and the coatings to be applied.
With quick thinking Serena phoned her sister who then phoned Danny in Vancouver who then used his call card to phone the store I was in.
After passing the phone back and forth the man, and I, arrived at; low price plastic for my everyday glasses, medium grade plastic for my computer glasses, (Lenses that are integrated with far vision at the top, keyboard, or reading prescription at the bottom, and monitor correction in the middle.) anti glare coating on both pairs, and scratch resistant coating on the computer glasses.
hen I chose a new pair of frames for the computer glasses so I can keep the old pair as a spare.
My regular glasses were straightened and the new frames inserted within _ hour. The integrated glasses will take 5 days.
Total cost $1050.00 Chinese, about $161.58 Canadian. Need I tell you what a saving that is?
This is the weekend of the peach Festival.
According to the radio, many people are demanding their entrance fee be refunded.
They say the flowers on the trees aren't real.
Apparently, because of the late spring the trees have not come into bloom yet.
To save the festival the promoters added fake blossoms to the trees.
Mmmmm, using helicopters to fly snow in for the Olympic games.
I wonder if both event use the same promoters?
do you know of a burial registry
am looking for a John Hipsley Sanders some where between 1939-1945
also looking for family name Sanders as grandfather / grandmother came from this area in their movement across Canada.
Wayne S. Prince George B. C. Canada
Where did you see them?
The only funeral home I know if PG was turned into a pizza parlor many years ago.
You might want to contact city hall and ask for their archives.
I don't recall meeting any Sanders during the time I lived there.
The main theme of my website is, me, writing, and taking pictures.
I have a large travel section and most of the pictures taken in Canada, and the USA were taken through the windshield.
I also have a trucker's section where I have posted a few stories of my days behind the wheel.
As well I am developing a trucking pictionary where I try to explain the various facets of the trucking industry and illustrate them with photos.
Like any other website I have a `letters to the editor' section which I call a `guest book'.
Recently one of my readers asked me, “Why are China Tops, called China Tops?”
I phoned a couple of the local trailer sales but they didn't know so I wrote to several trailer manufactures and haven't received any replies.
So, my question is; do you, or any of your readers, know, the origin of the term `China Top'?
Regards,
Steev H
