Paul and I, travelling South, turned West, off Hwy. 200, just North of the junction to Oaxaca.
If you were travelling North you would turn at the Oaxaca junction.
Of course, then, you would reach Mazunte last, rather than first, of the communities along this road.

Mazunte is the home of La Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga, the Mexican Marine Turtle Center.
Many years ago Mazunte was an important turtle harvesting center. The; shells, oil, and meat, of the turtles was used for many purposes.
Now Mazunte concentrates on preserving what they had once helped drive to extinction.

We passed through Mazunte on our way to Puerto Angel and came back later, late on Sunday, but the turtle farm closes at 4 PM on Sunday.

If you like lovely scenery, or wish to get to Zipolite, or Puerto Angel, carry on.
If you just want to go to Oaxaca or Huatulco, it is quicker to turn back, to Hwy. 200.

Paul and I, travelling South, from Mazunte, came across, well we didn't have much choice, the road goes through the middle of town, Zipolite.
Zipolite was once noted for the harvesting of sea turtles. But, now, is famous for its surfing and quite, out of the way, style of life.
First the road goes through Playa San Agustinillo, and past Pina Palmera.

Playa San Agustinillo, is a favoured spot for fly fishing as well as a quite beach for swimming.

Between each little settlement is several kilometers of road which don't seem to be on any maps.
I think, not too long ago, this road was a dusty trail.

On a Sunday, in every town, in Mexico, you will find a; basketball, &/or, soccer game.
Of course, we had to stop, in Zipolite, so Paul, an avid sports fan, could watch the soccer game.

And, lastly, we went past Playa Del Amor, the nudist beach.
